ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO LUTHER COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL

International students applying for admission to Grade 11 and Grade 12 must have a score of at least 450 on the TOEFL examination or 140-153 on the computer-based examination. They must also participate in Luther's English as a Second Language (ESL)program.

TOEFL scores are not required for international students applying for admission to grades 9 and 10. These students must, however, have a good working knowledge of English. They may be asked to participate in Luther's ESL program.


LUTHER'S ESL PROGRAM

Luther's ESL program is designed to help international students in grades 9 and 10 develop their English language skills.

The Program's objective is to bring its participants to a Grade 10 English level within one year. Students must work very hard to achieve this objective. Those who fail to meet this objective, find it difficult to finish their high school education within four years.

Luther's ESL Program is very comprehensive. It involves:

1) 100 minutes per day of introductory English instruction
2) living in the Luther dorms
3) immersion English
4) activities and student events
5) a local host family (optional)
6) study hours

Extra tutoring is also available at an additional cost.
