International Baccalaureate

Luther was the first school in Saskatchewan to offer the International Baccalaureate Program. An enrichment program, IB fits well with the College’s liberal arts foundation.
The program aims to:

· equip students with the means to make wise choices
· ensure that students learn how to learn
· enhance students’ awareness of the world’s community and social responsibility
· create an awareness and understanding of the importance of international communication in an increasingly interdependent world
· encourage self-confidence and a maturing self-discipline
· develop the learning skills of reading for content, analysis, verbal and written communication, inductive and deductive reasoning and the expansion of the imagination
· take knowledge beyond the memorization of facts into the realms of analysis and synthesis in order to organize information into a meaningful structure.

The IB Program is targeted at highly motivated, university-bound students. It fulfills entrance requirements for universities around the world and, in many cases, provides students with advanced standing.

Students at Luther have the option of completing the full IB Diploma or up to three individual courses at the IB level.

The IB Program officially begins in Grade 11 and takes two-years to complete. Students, however, should take a pre-IB year in Grade 10 to ensure space is available in their schedules for IB courses in Grade 12.
