Edmonton Public Schools (EPS) is a large urban school jurisdiction located in Edmonton, the capital city of the province of Alberta, Canada. EPS’s International Student Program provides opportunities for motivated students from other countries to study challenging academic subjects with their Canadian peers, and at the same time receive intensive English language training. In addition to the fully accredited Alberta curriculum, both the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) and Advanced Placement Program (AP) are available for highly capable international students.

Edmonton Public Schools has an excellent reputation for effectively preparing high school students for the rigours of university or college. Courses offered include English, mathematics, social studies and sciences. To enrich their academic life, students also take additional courses in computer technology, physical education, and fine arts, and participate in many extracurricular school-based clubs and activities where they will develop the important skills of leadership and citizenship. The academic year is comprised of two semesters; the first semester is from September to end January and the second semester is from February to end June. To maximize their learning, it is ideal for students to begin school at either the beginning of September or the beginning of February. However, EPS allows flexible entry and accepts students when they arrive.

EPS has a mandatory student health insurance plan for all international students applying to the district. Fees of $400 per year are collected at the same time as the tuition, application and homestay fees. Students are responsible for all medical and other expenses that exceed the scope of this health coverage.

Edmonton Public Schools offers an excellent Homestay program for international students who are 14 years of age or older. Many Edmonton families are interested in welcoming international students into their homes. For details, please refer to the Homestay section under Programs on this website.
