Choose a study pathway
Start with the qualification and skills you want to gain. Compare the subject, teaching language, delivery format and location before choosing an institution.
University, college, vocational, secondary and language programs serve different goals. A familiar school name does not establish whether a particular campus or program fits your project.
- Write down your goal
- Compare at least three programs
- Check the institution’s own admission pages

Mass Communications/Media Studies
You’ve got a cell phone, an iPod and a blog. And between the 500 channels on your digital television, your high-speed Internet connection and subscriptions to various print and online magazines you are totally connected and aware of what is going on around the world. Now what? How about learning more about communications and the communication technology you use every day.
While it sounds like a simple concept – the process of exchanging information through a common system of symbols, signs or behavior – communication is in fact quite complex. It goes beyond the conversations you have with your friends, what you read or the images you see on your TV. It is how we connect with each other.
And it is a connection that changes all the time.
From body language to hieroglyphics to global broadcasting, how we communicate continues to evolve. With this progress comes new ideas and new technologies that influence, and sometimes radically change, traditional communication practices.
Canadian schools offer a wide variety of Mass Communication and Media Studies programs including courses in Broadcasting and Communication Technologies, Journalism, Publishing, Linguistics, Languages, Marketing, Advertising, and Public Relations. Whether you are interested in learning about Communication theory and history, the important role both communication and communication technologies play in our lives today or how communication will shape our future, there is a program for you.
