  1. Definir el objetivo
  2. Comparar al menos tres programas
  3. Consultar las admisiones de cada institución

       Scholarship for English Teachers at Carleton University

The Diploma in English as a Foreign Language: English Language and Teaching Methods for International English Teachers is a four-week program designed to give international English teachers a uniquely Canadian professional development experience. Participants gain exposure to the latest English language teaching methodology in theory and practice, becoming more critical and informed teachers, and also have the opportunity to upgrade their own language proficiency. Candidates for this program should have at least one of the following qualifications:

● ESL teaching experience (minimum one year at a school or institution);

● experience teaching languages other than English;

● formal  training in education, with some focus on language teaching;

● admission into either the CTESL or MA Program at the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies, Carleton University.

Participants are expected to be able to perform the following tasks in English:

● comprehend lectures and participate in discussions about learning and teaching methodologies.

● clearly communicate ideas related to the program content , as well as to the  context of their own teaching

● synthesize and analyse information from scholarly publications in the field of language teaching

● produce written descriptions of classroom activities, and written evaluations of teaching methods and materials

The program consists of four language components. The central one is:

● the Language Teaching Methodology class, which concentrates on state-of-the-art teaching methodology and thematic language training.

Units of this class include:

● Communicative Language Teaching

● Second Language Acquisition Theory

● Process-based Approaches

● Teaching Reading and Writing

● Workshops given by experts and language teaching professionals. Workshops on applied methodology, curricular innovations, and language education issues may include: Thematic Teaching, Creating thematic Units, Coping with Large Classes, Oral Process, Writing Process, teaching English an International Language, Testing and Evaluation, Cultural Issues in the Classroom, Creative Language Use, and many more;

● Classroom Observation where teachers observe and reflect on the innovative teaching methods at work in Intensive English Classes;

● a Final Project in which teachers will synthesize their views on a selected topic related to their own teaching. Alternatively they can also develop teaching units as the final product of their course work, for use with their own classes, in collaboration with Canadian colleagues. This project is generated, drafted, discussed, and revised throughout the four weeks, allowing participants to develop their language ability while applying the content of the program to their own particular working contexts.

The topic of the Final project is expected from the participants early in the Program. Therefore, we recommend that you consider one or two topic choices and include them with your application.
