Summer in Vietnam

Experience the culture, language, history and sights of Vietnam for two weeks this August

Summer in Vietnam offers Vietnamese-Canadian students the opportunity to get back to their roots and experience the rich culture and heritage of their ancestors, while interacting with local communities in present-day Vietnam.      

About Program

Students Will:

• Visit historical and tourist sights in and around Ho Chi Minh City
• Experience local food and customs
• Go on overnight excursions to Cuu Long Delta, Phan Thiet Beach and Dalat City
• Learn and/or improve their Vietnamese 
• Interact with local students
• Participate in community development activities

Program Length: 2 weeks

Age of Participants: 18 + years

Program Dates: August 18 - September 1, 2007

Registration Deadline: May 25, 2007 
As space is limited to 20 students we encourage you to register early!

Cost: $4,000  
Program Costs Include:

• Return flight from Toronto to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
• All activities, excursions and lessons
• All meals, accommodation and domestic transportation

Vietnamese Lessons

• Fun and interactive lessons located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City

Cultural Activities

• Trip to market and cooking lessons (how to cook Pho)
• Visit a river market and coconut plantation in Cuu Long Delta
• Visit to Binh Duong Ceramics Factory
• Visit to a local tailor to make the traditional Ỏao daiÕ
• Overnight stay in indigenous home and elephant riding
• Evening Cultural Shows
• Watch Vietnamese martial art (Vovinam)
• Enjoy traditional Vietnamese music
• Visit Phan Thiet and Mui Ne - discover the fishing villages and meet fishermen

Sightseeing

• Visit to Cu Chi Tunnels and Historical Sightseeing
• Tour of Ho Chi Minh City
• Excursion to Phan Thiet Beach - kite surfing, Ong Pagoda, Red dunes
• Visit to Mekong Delta region

Accommodation
Students will stay in an attractive boutique hotel conveniently located in the heart of the business, entertainment and shopping center of Ho Chi Minh City. Students will also stay together with a local family for one night in Vinh Long and in a beach resort while in Phan Thiet.

Volunteer Experience
Interact with local Vietnamese and contribute to the local community by:

• Volunteering at an orphanage
• Participating in Mua He Xanh (Green Summer 2007) with local university students

Pre-Departure Orientation
Registered participants will be invited to attend an orientation session one month prior to departure. Students will meet fellow participants, receive a detailed itinerary of program activities and get tips on how to best prepare for their trip.
