UBC Okanagan embeds psychologist in Student Health Clinic; research shows measurable student mental‑health improvements
UBC Okanagan placed a psychologist inside its Student Health Clinic and conducts funded research demonstrating improved access and measurable mental‑health outcomes for students.
Since 2023 UBC Okanagan has embedded a clinical psychologist in its Student Health Clinic: students reporting mental‑health concerns are routinely booked for the next appointment. The model offers a 45‑minute initial session and 30‑minute follow‑ups, beginning treatment on day one. The CORE lab supports applied research funded by CFI, the BC Knowledge Development Fund and a Campus as a Living Lab grant, and since 2022 has partnered with Interior Health. A pilot found reductions in depression and anxiety after four 30‑minute visits; Interior Health also reports suicide screening rising to about 30%.
